Deputies: Man stabs ex-wife in Oviedo retirement community

Thomas Price, 58, arrested in stabbing

OVIEDO, Fla. – Seminole County deputies arrested a 58-year-old man early Monday morning on allegations that he stabbed his 67-year-old ex-wife inside her Oviedo home.

Thomas Price was arrested on charges of attempted murder in the stabbing, which occurred around 9 p.m. Sunday in the 3900 block of Sabal Drive, a retirement community.

Lt. Carey Manuel said Maria Coschiginano was stabbed once in the chest by a butcher's knife in her living room. After the stabbing, deputies say Price ran away, but he was found walking about two blocks from the home.

According to the police report, Price flagged down a neighbor and said "you need to hold me here, I just killed someone."

Deputies said Coschiginano and Price were married for 12 years and remained friends. Price moved in with Coschiginano in August, and the couple's roommate said that Coschiginano wanted Price to move out because he was depression and drank alcohol.

On Sunday, Price had several alcoholic drinks and when Coschiginano came home, they had a fight about him drinking and him not wanting to move to a motel, according to the report. Deputies believe the fight sparked the stabbing.

"Who would be in there to stab her, except her husband?  That's all I know," said Jim Williams, who lives nearby and has done work for the victim in her home.

Seminole County deputies said no other people were inside the house at the time of the stabbing.

An investigation is ongoing.

Price, who's being held on no bond, will have his first court appearance at 1:30 p.m. Monday.
