ORLANDO, Fla. - A racial slur was written in red paint on Kurl Santiago's front door Monday afternoon.
Kurl, 74, said it was written while she was at work, serving lunch at Dr. Phillips Elementary School.
"Oh my God, I could not believe it," said Santiago.
Santiago's grandson tried to sand off the hateful word, but the red paint was still visible.
Santiago said she wonders if it's connected to an incident that happened just days before outside her home. Four young men drove by in what looked like a black Chevy Impala and were shouting obscenities, Santiago said.
"They drove past the street and turned into the cul-de-sac and when they came around, they said, 'Death to...,'" said Santiago's grandson, Neil Santiago.
According to the grandson, the men also shouted "Romney for president" and "Go back to Africa" before they drove off.
Another hate crime was reported in the area about two weeks ago. Just blocks away from Santiago's Yarrow Court home, someone spray-painted the words "white power" and "brotherhood" on several homes and cars along Spring Villas Circle.
Santiago said she worries what will happen next.
"I got so nervous. I really got so nervous," said Santiago. "I was flabbergasted."
