Family, pets escape from burning home

Smoke detectors alerted family of fire

DELTONA, Fla. – A family was forced from their home early Tuesday after a fire sparked up in a backyard shed and spread to the adjoining house.

Firefighters were called out to 1000 Persian St. after receiving a 911 call for a structure fire.  By the time firefighters arrived on scene, the shed was fully engulfed and a back bedroom had caught fire.

Rebecca Marley was asleep when a smoke detector went off.  She was awakened by her father and sister as they tried to extinguish the flames.

"They were like, there's a fire, fire, and they were trying to put it out," said Marley.

Firefighters said everyone inside, including two birds and a cat, escaped without injuries.

The state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
