KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Florida Hospital Kissimmee will break ground on a major expansion that will triple the size of its emergency department and double the amount of beds available.
Hospital leaders tell Local 6 the emergency department will have 35 beds when the project is complete. The hospital currently has 15 beds available.
The expanded department will also include kid-friendly rooms and allow the hospital to add emergency staff.
When the project is finished, the emergency department will be 22,560 square feet, which is triple the current size.
Construction of the expansion is expected to be complete by the end of 2013.
Hospital leaders expect Osceola County's population to grow by nearly 12 percent every five years. The expansion will help meet the needs of the growing community, according to Florida Hospital.
Crews will break ground on the project during a ceremony at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
