Fleet Peeples Park gets a new name after abuse allegations

Namesake Fleet Peeples accused of molesting several children

WINTER PARK, Fla - The city of Winter Park voted unanimously Monday to change the name of a popular dog park.

The move came on the heels of allegations the man the park is named after, Fleetwood "Fleet" Peeples, abused children.

Peeples was a well-known swim teacher and swim coach at Rollins College.

Last week, the Orlando Sentinel reported at least five of his former students say Peeples sexually molested them.

Peeples died in 1993.

Some city leaders say while they cannot prove or disprove the claims, the city would be best served by changing the name back to the original "Lake Baldwin Park."
