Fundraiser for slain Brevard Co. deputy announced

MELBOURNE, Fla. - A fundraiser benefitting the family of fallen Brevard County deputy Barbara Pill will be held in early May.

The Brevard County Sheriff's Office says Deputy Pill was shot and killed during a traffic stop following a robbery on March 6. Organizers announced the fundraiser on Monday.

Money will be raised through a memorial bike ride on May 6. The memorial ride starts at Geoff Bodine's Honda of Melbourne on South Apollo Boulevard. Riders and non-riders can register for the event by giving a $25 donation.  Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the ride begins at 11 a.m.

Riders who pre-register before May 5 will earn five chances to win a $500 gift card to Honda of Melbourne.

The fundraiser will also feature live bands, food and drinks.
