Kissimmee police investigating latest in string of shootings

Police say shooting is 11th in past week

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Kissimmee police stepped up their patrols around the north end of the city Monday night after an 11th instance of gunshots fired in the area in the past week.

At about 4 a.m. Monday, officers responded to a residence at 1517 Mabbette Street after a victim reported hearing gunshots and observing three bullet holes on the outside wall of her home.

Officials said no one was injured in Monday's incident.

"It's very scary," said Kendra Coleman, who lives at the home that was shot. "At the moment, you really don't know what to think. You don't know what to do at that moment."

The other recent Kissimmee shootings include the Wednesday killing of 17-year-old David Stiven Guerrero.

Police said Guerrero was walking to a bus stop at about 6 a.m. on his way to work when he was shot and killed. No arrests have been made in the case.

On Tuesday, police processed three separate scenes in which eight homes and a bar were sprayed with bullets. No one was injured in Tuesday's instances either.

Detectives have evidence connecting some of the recent shootings to one another, but police say there is no evidence linking Guerrero's shooting to Monday morning's incident or any other recent shooting.

Residents said they are scared.

One woman Local 6 spoke with said she fears for her three children who used to play outside, until the gunshots forced them in.

"It could be my neighbor, or it could be a person down the street," she said. "You could go out to check your mail, and be dead the next minute."

Kissimmee police said officers have been working around the clock with the help of the Osceola County Sheriff's Office and St. Cloud Police Department to identify those responsible for the shootings and Guerrero's death.

"The law enforcement agencies in Osceola County are committed to working together to find those responsible for these incidents. We continue to ask the community to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement immediately," said Kissimmee Police Chief Lee Massie.

Officials urge anyone with information regarding Guerrero's death to contact Kissimmee police at 407-846-3333, by email at seeitsayit@kissimmee.org or anonymously at 800-423-8477.
