LONGWOOD, Fla. - A Longwood couple were arrested Friday after a 2-month-old was shaken because the infant wouldn't stop crying, deputies said.
Seminole County sheriff's deputies began the investigation Thursday when they responded to a call at a home on Corporate Square where the infant was found unresponsive and bleeding from the nose.
The infant was taken to South Seminole Hospital and later airlifted to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando.
Doctors indicated the abuse caused serious brain injuries and said the baby might not survive, according to deputies. They also said the infant showed signs of prior abuse.
Deputies say Joshua Stuart, 26, fled the home before deputies arrived but was found Friday in Altamonte Springs and taken to the sheriff's office for questioning.
Stuart was charged with aggravated child abuse after deputies learned he had violently shaken the baby, the sheriff's office said. He was booked into the John E. Polk Correctional Facility with no bond.
Jessica Heath, 24, was charged with child neglect after investigators learned she failed to administer necessary, daily medication to the infant, deputies said.
Heath remains incarcerated with a $2,500 bond.
