Louisville could push UCF into BCS bowl game

Knights hold tiebreaker over Cardinals

ORLANDO, Fla. – UCF Knights fans may be wearing red and chanting "Let's go Cardinals" on Thursday.

The Knights — who don't play again until Saturday — will clinch a berth into the team's first BCS bowl game if the Louisville Cardinals beat the Cincinnati Bearcats on Thursday night.

UCF holds the advantage over Louisville in a tiebreaker scenario because the Knights upset the Cardinals in Louisville back in mid-October. Therefore, if Louisville wins and the Knights lose on Saturday, the Knights would still win the American Athletic Conference because of the head-to-head tiebreaker.

However, if the Bearcats beat the Cardinals, UCF could still miss the BCS bowl game if the team loses to Southern Methodist University on Saturday.

In this scenario, Cincinnati could take over the spot in the BCS game if it is ranked higher than UCF in Sunday's updated poll.

Kickoff for the Cardinals-Bearcats matchup is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Nippert Stadium in Cincinnati.
