MELBOURNE, Fla. - 34-year-old Michael A. Wease led Melbourne police on a car chase after he cut his father with a knife and "forcibly" stole his grandmother's 2010 Ford Focus.
Sunday evening, Melbourne Police Department received a call that there was a fight between a father and son at the 1600 block of Sarno Road. According to Sgt. Brian Hart, Wease cut his father with a knife and then fled the home in his grandmother's car, Florida Today reports.
According to a news release from the Melbourne Police Department, the suspect told his family he would flee police, would not go back to prison and suggested bodily harm to himself or others. It is not yet clear what he was previously jailed for.
Police, along with the Brevard County Sheriff's office and the West Melbourne Police Department, spotted the vehicle southbound Interstate 95 exiting to Eau Gallie Boulevard where it appeared the suspect was heading back to the residence.
Police tried to use a traffic stop but when the suspect didn't yield, they used stop sticks to deflate his tires and he crashed into a utility pole near the home where the incident started.
Wease was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center where he was cleared of his injuries and will be charged with aggravated battery and assault, carjacking, fleeing and eluding an officer and driving with a suspended license.
