LONGWOOD, Fla. – For the third straight day, late-night storms rumbled across Central Florida, dropping heavy rain on parts of the region.
There's a 40 percent chance of rain in the Orlando area on Wednesday, with high temperatures reaching the mid-90s. The "feels like" temperature, however, will be 100 degrees.
Overnight lows will be in the mid-70s.
Rain chances drop to 20 percent on Thursday before jumping to 40 percent on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
With a summer-like weather pattern in Central Florida over the last few weeks, several cities have seen rain totals increase greatly. As of June 18, 10.29 inches of rain have fallen this month in Sanford and 9.14 inches of rain have been recorded in Orlando.
A tree likely toppled by lightning during strong thunderstorms late Monday damaged two Longwood homes and knocked out power to an entire neighborhood.
A large oak tree fell onto the houses off North Credo Street near Ronald Reagan Boulevard and U.S. 17-92.
"We heard the wind and then there was a big bolt of lightning and the house kind of shook," neighbor Dorothy Roysum said. "It was quite frightening, and I really didn't get the feel of it until I went outside and looked back to the house."
The tree punctured a hole in one house and the other sustained serious damage. No one was injured.
Meanwhile, forecasters say a tropical depression crossing Mexico's Bay of Campeche is expected to become a tropical storm before making landfall in that country's Gulf coast state of Veracruz.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami said the Atlantic season's second tropical depression is drenching areas in its path with between 3 and 10 inches of rain, raising the threat of flash floods.
The depression formed Monday off Belize and was about 105 miles northeast of Coatzacoalcos, Mexico, early Wednesday. It was moving west-northwest at 9 mph and forecast to strengthen before expected landfall Thursday morning in Veracruz state.
The storm has maximum sustained winds of 35 mph. A tropical storm warning has been issued in Mexico from Punta El Lagarto to Barra de Nautla.
The system will not impact the weather in Central Florida.
