Driver taken into custody, officer's dog still mising, police say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A pickup truck stolen from a Jacksonville police officer was recovered Tuesday evening in Springfield following a chase and one teenager was arrested, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.

About 9 p.m., officers observed a pickup truck that had been reported stolen leaving the Roosevelt Gardens Apartments on Lincoln Court.

A pursuit followed, which ended when the pickup struck a police cruiser then crashed into a power pole on North Davis Street, splitting it in half, according to police. 

Police said 14-year-old Patrick Bell, who driving the truck was taken into custody after a short foot chase when a K-9 unit was deployed, but a passenger in the pickup ran off. 

No injuries were reported. The officer's missing dog was not in the pickup.

Bell was charged with armed burglary and auto theft.  He was also charged with one count of aggravated battery on an officer and three counts of aggravated assault on an officer.

Friends of the police officer began searching for his dog after he said burglars broke into his Murray Hill home Monday afternoon and stole guns, jewelry and his pickup truck.

There is a $500 reward for the safe return of Hemingway, who is a pit bull and wears a brown leather collar. He has not yet been found.
