MELBOURNE, Fla. - A 21-year-old man was shot and killed in a south Melbourne apartment complex in what police say was one of two shooting incidents within a half-mile of each other.

Police arrived at the Hopkins Place Apartments complex at 3000 Monroe Street and found Kaper R. Williams' body lying in the parking lot.
The slaying, the 17th reported homicide for Brevard County this year, was the latest in a long string of shootings to take place in the south Melbourne community.
No motive given for the shooting, one of two incidents from Tuesday night that investigators are reviewing.
The first shooting was reported about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday at Shul Manor Apartments off of University Boulevard to investigate reports of gunfire.
An unidentified shooter fired at least one round into an apartment in the 65-unit complex.
No injuries were immediately reported. A short time later, Williams was shot dead.
Detectives and police combed the streets for clues throughout the night. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 321-259-1211.
