Ducklings rescued from Orlando storm drain

Firefighters, Orange County Animal Services team up save birds

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – After a call for help from their mother, two ducklings were rescued Wednesday from a storm drain.

The ducklings' mother was spotted by a bystander waddling around the back of Ikea near the Mall of Millenia, apparently looking for help in getting her children out of the drain.

Orange County Animal Services was called and Senior Officer Nicole McKenzie was at the site shortly afterward.

Animal Services and Fire Rescue took the grate off of the drain and used a net to scoop out the ducklings.

An OCAS officer took the baby ducks by hand out of the net and reunited them with their mother.

According to Orange County Animal Services, the ducklings were just a few weeks old and were either wood ducks or mallards.
