Armed man chases burglary suspect in College Park

Homeowner caught alleged burglar in the act

ORLANDO, Fla. – A homeowner in Orlando's College Park neighborhood grabbed his gun and chased after a burglary suspect Wednesday.

Chris Edson tells Local 6 he caught the suspect breaking into his truck early Wednesday morning at his home on Harvard Street.

Edson says he got his handgun and went outside to confront the man. "He kept dropping his hands down and I kept telling him keep your hands up and he'd bring them up and drop them down," says Edson. "Then he decided he was going to try and escape."

Edson says the man figured out he wasn't going to shoot him, so he ran down the street. Edson then started chasing after him, even though he was still wearing his bathrobe.

Orlando Police arrived moments later and were able to take Devon Harris, 22, into custody. Investigators say Harris is responsible for at least four car burglaries in the area and was found with a variety of stolen items.

Edson says he made the mistake of leaving his truck unlocked, something he says will never happen again.

Harris was being held in the Orange County Jail Wednesday night.
