Elderly man dies in Orlando house fire

Paramedics in ambulance spot blaze, try to rescue man

ORLANDO, Fla. – An elderly man was killed early Friday in an Orlando house fire, according to police.

The fire broke out around 4 a.m. at a home in the 500 block of West Washington Street.

According to Orlando police, paramedics in a Rural-Metro ambulance spotted the blaze and entered the house.  They tried to rescue a man inside, but the house started to collapse and they lost verbal contact with the man, police said.

Orlando firefighters extinguished the blaze, and 76-year-old Donald Jackson was found dead inside the home, police said.

No one else was inside the house.
