ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - An intruder who was shot in a home invasion near the University of Central Florida last week has died, deputies said.
Gabriel Mercado-Gonzalez, 19, was pronounced dead Wednesday morning at a hospital, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies continue to search for two other intruders who jumped from a second-floor window during a gunfight between Mercado-Gonzalez and a resident.
The home invasion occurred around 8 p.m. last Thursday at 3528 Khayyam Ave. in Orlando.
According to Orange County sheriff's deputies, the residents inside the home said three gunmen entered the back of their home. One of the victims retrieved his gun and a shootout took place, with Mercado-Gonzalez being struck multiple times, deputies said. He was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical but stable condition and later died.
The other two intruders jumped from a second-floor window and fled on foot.
No other injuries were reported by deputies, and no other details have been released.
Anyone with information about the home invasion is urged to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
