ORLANDO, Fla. – George Zimmerman's former attorney says he's "worried" about his one-time client following Zimmerman's arrest on assault charges.
Mark O'Mara responded to the arrest for the first time Thursday night.

During a nationally televised interview on CNN, O'Mara described Zimmerman as "peaceful" and "mellow" before being arrested for the murder of Trayvon Martin. But he says the long trial caused trauma, and says Zimmerman has never received any counseling.
"He was turned into one of the most hated men in America for having to defend his life, O'Mara said. "So I'm not sure what happens with a 28-year-old when you do that to him and put him in hiding for 16 or 18 months. Maybe this is some of that fallout."
Zimmerman is out on bond on aggravated assault charges after his girlfriend Samantha Scheibe says he pulled a gun on her during an argument earlier this week in Seminole County. Zimmerman denies the allegations saying he never pulled a firearm.
O'Mara isn't representing Zimmerman in this new case. O'Mara does say he believes much of the $2.5 million dollars Zimmerman says he has in debt is money that's owed to him and fellow attorney Don West. O'Mara though says he knows he'll likely never see any of that money.
Zimmerman's whereabouts now are not known. He's due back in court in January.
