Officer fires at suspects following deadly shooting

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando police are searching for the gunmen who killed a man and then tried to run over an off-duty officer.

Police tell Local 6 the off-duty officer, who was not immediately identified, was working at Whiskey River Lounge on Orange Blossom Trail when a witness told him someone had been shot in the parking lot.

As they walked outside, police say the witness pointed out the suspect vehicle to the off-duty officer. The officer also noticed the shooting victim lying in the parking lot.

The victim is 19-year-old Thomas McCrimon Jr. He later died at the hospital from his wounds.

According to police, the gunmen tried to run over the officer when he came outside. The officer avoided the car, drew his weapon and fired at the vehicle.

As the gunmen fled, one of the passengers jumped out of the car and escaped on foot. Investigators eventually found the car unoccupied near John Young Parkway and Orange Center Boulevard. Police found guns inside the car.

Police are still searching for the two suspects.

The officer was not hurt. He will be placed on administrative leave as the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates the officer-involved shooting.
