According to the report, the man escorted the guard to the hotel counter and when the guard didn't move fast enough, the man grabbed a wicker style basket and jumped over the counter.

The man stole money from a cash drawer and ran out of the hotel, getting into a Mears taxi and heading south on Universal Boulevard, police said.

Police checked with Mears for the cab number, but they couldn't provide a vehicle dispatched to the hotel.
