Woman convicted in 2012 fatal hit-and-run sentenced to 2 years

22-year-old walking in crosswalk killed in crash

ORLANDO, Fla. – A California woman was sentenced on Wednesday to two years in prison in a 2012 fatal hit-and-run crash in Orlando.

Jennifer Gerette Toth, 43, of San Jose, was arrested in 2012 on charges of leaving the scene of an accident with death. She was sentenced to two years in prison with two years probation after.

The fatal crash happened at the intersection of Apopka Vineland Road and Meadow Creek Drive, just south of Interstate 4 in Orlando.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 22-year-old Lui Ye from China was walking in a crosswalk when she was struck by a 2011 Nissan Altima. Witnesses told troopers that Toth ran a red light, hit the woman and drove off.

Ye was taken to Dr. Phillips Hospital and was pronounced dead.

Ye's parents Skyped in from China on Wednesday saying that the death of their daughter has caused them indescribable suffering and sorrow.

Toth's sister and her best friend also spoke on Wednesday describing the type of person she is. An FHP trooper also testified about how the investigation went.
