Police said in April 2011, Emlit's 80-year-old grandmother reported jewelry stolen from her home.

She told police that when she visited her daughter, Emlit would go to her house and steal checks and credit cards.

Police said Emlit forged his grandmother's name on checks up to $8,000 and ran up $4,680 on her credit card.

Police said Emlit confessed to the thefts when questioned by his grandmother. Family members believe he was using the money for alcohol and prescription pills.

Emlit is also suspected of stealing the jewelry. Additional charges are pending.
