MAITLAND, Fla. – A Maitland company that builds emergency housing said it is gettting requests from private sector companies in the northeast for their portable, rapidly deployable housing units.
SafeHut began marketing their units before the start of the 2012 hurricane season.

The product is essentially a trailer with walls that fold up and down and easily stacks so it can be put to use rather easily.
The units are integrated with electric and plumbing and set up within two minutes.
Sarah Smith, the company's Vice President said in an email today that they are currently fielding calls from the private sector seeking what is available.
SafeHut has been trying to arrange a contract with FEMA, but the agency has been slow to act according to Smith.
"Calling us after the storm will not get them the thousands of units they may need immediately," she said via email, adding that FEMA could have acted proactively so that the private sector would not be making these last minute requests.
