UCF: No knife-wielding man on campus

Student made 'inaccurate' report, campus police say

ORLANDO, Fla. – UCF students awoke to an alert on Tuesday of a knife-wielding man on campus, but it turned out to be a false alarm, police said.

School leaders sent out the alert just after 2:30 a.m., warning students the suspect had been seen near the Lake Claire Apartments, between the Communication Building and Greek Park.

The alert described the man as slender and about 6 feet 2 inches tall with long brown hair. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and white pants.

The alert was classified as an aggravated assault, but campus police later said that there was no attack or threat of violence.

"The student contacted UCF Police after seeing a man with a knife early this morning. UCF Police immediately searched the area and did not find the individual. A police review is ongoing," UCF officials said in a release.

Just before noon, the school released a statement, saying "UCF Police has completed its investigation and concluded that there was no man with a knife in the Lake Claire residence hall this morning. The report made to police by a student was inaccurate."
