Video released of sisters abandoning baby at Ocala Walmart

Ocala police: Women accused of theft left baby at store

OCALA, Fla. – Ocala police have released the video of the mother of a 1-year-old boy leaving her son at a store as she was trying to steal merchandise.

Police say a Walmart employee told an officer that the woman put merchandise in the baby's diaper bag on Friday. When the woman and her sister tried to leave, the employee stopped them and ordered them to return inside. You can see in the video, the sister of the mother running out to the parking lot. The mother follows shortly behind, leaving the child in the cart.

The two sisters were picked up in the Walmart parking lot by a blue Ford Aerostar, police said.

The pair was arrested Saturday outside a dance club. The women were identified as 19-year-old Allison Niemeyer and her sister 22-year-old Laura Niemeyer. They face child neglect charges, as well as felony theft.

The child was placed in the custody of the Florida Department of Children and Families.
