Volusia firefighters work to contain brush fire

Lightning sparked 45 acre brush fire

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Volusia County firefighters are working to extinguish a brush fire that was sparked by lightning Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters said they were called to the area of LPGA Boulevard and Champions Gate Road Sunday after reports of lightning came in.

Firefighters said they arrived on the scene and discovered a brush fire had started and quickly grew.

Firefighters said at last count the brush fire was 80 percent contained as of Monday afternoon and grew to about 50 acres.

Officials said the fire is not threatening any structures or shutting down any roads at this time, but it was threatening power lines.
