Lockdown lifted in fatal shooting near Sanford school

2 shot near Goldsboro Elementary Magnet School

SANFORD, Fla. – A fatal shooting near a Sanford elementary school prompted officials to put the school on lockdown.

At least two people were shot around 1:30 p.m. Thursday near Goldsboro Elementary Magnet School at 1300 West 20th Street. Two others were in custody and were being questioned, according to police. One was released as a witness.

An assault rifle and a .45-caliber handgun were recovered from the two, police said.

Sanford police were at the shooting scene, which is near West 18th Street and Peach Avenue.

One person was shot and killed, and the other shooting victim was being airlifted to a hospital, according to the Seminole County Sheriff's Office. Police were looking for a third shooting victim, who hasn't been found.

The lockdown was lifted at around 3 p.m.

No other details have been released.
