OCALA, Fla. – A judge on Friday sentenced a 21-year-old Marion County to death for murdering and dismembering a teenager.
Michael Bargo, 21, is one of five people convicted in the April 2011 shooting death of 15-year-old Seath Jackson. Bargo was convicted of first-degree murder earlier this year.
In August, the jury reached the recommendation for the death penalty in a 10 to 2 vote. The judge on Friday ultimately decided Bargo's sentence, taking the jury's advice.
"It is the judgement of law and sentence of the court that for the premeditated murder of Seath Jackson, you Michael Shane Bargo are sentenced to death," said Judge David Eddy. "I reference my experience to note this is the most cold calculated premeditated case of murder I have ever seen."
Bargo's family wept in the courtroom as the judge announced the sentence.
Bargo now becomes the youngest person currently on Florida's death row.
Charlie Ely, Justin Soto, Kyle Hooper and Amber Wright were all convicted in the case and were sentenced to life in prison.
In 2011, Bargo and four friends lured Seath to a home in Summerfield, where Bargo shot the 15-year-old multiple times. The group then burned Seath's body in a fire pit and disposed of the ashes by putting them in paint cans and dumping them in a quarry.
