OCALA, Fla. - A man and his 3-year-old son were shot while sleeping early Thursday morning at the same Ocala house where 17 pit bulls were reported stolen earlier in the week, according to deputies.
Taegren Jones, 31, and Taegren Jones Jr., 3, were injured in the shooting, which occurred around 3 a.m. at a home in the 7600 block of Northwest 49th Avenue.
The father was struck on his hand and his son was shot in the arm, said Marion County sheriff's deputies. Both were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Marion County Sheriff's Office said the pair was asleep in the same bed with a woman and another child when several shots were fired.
It's not know if the shooter was in a car or if the shooting was related to the theft of the dogs, which included 15 puppies.
An investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 352-368-STOP.
