Man, 46, rescued by Coast Guard helicopter

Crewmember was suffering from chest pains, say officials

VENICE, Fla. - A 46-year-old man was medically evacuated by Coast Guard helicopter crewmembers 100 miles west of Venice on Thursday.

Officials said he was suffering from chest pains aboard a 48-foot fishing vessel.

A crewmember aboard the fishing vessel, Amy Lynn, contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg at 6:37 pm. According to the Coast Guard, the person said a fellow crewmember was suffering from shortness of breath and chest pains and needed immediate medical attention.

A MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew, already airborne from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, was diverted at 6:39 pm.

The crew arrived on the scene at 7:20 pm, officials said.

The man was safely hoisted into the helicopter and transported to Tampa General Hospital for further care.
