ORLANDO, Fla. – A 75-year-old man was shocked by a stun gun during a carjacking in MetroWest, and the culprits were nabbed a short time later after a crash, according to Orlando police.
The carjacking occurred around 11:45 a.m. Thursday in the 5100 block of MetroWest Boulevard at the Eagles Nest park, where the victim frequently goes to read his Bible, police say.
Orlando police said two assailants approached a man and demanded the keys to his Chrysler 300. A struggle ensued, and one of the culprits used a stun gun on the man several times, police said.
The assailants then stole the man's car and sped off, according to police, who said the stolen vehicle crashed about two minutes later on Old Winter Garden Road near Ivey Lane. Two people bailed from the stolen car but were located and detained, police said.
18-year-olds Christopher Smith and Trynton Hamilton have been identified as the suspects and are being charged with resisting officer without violence. In addition, Smith is being charged with violation of probation and trespass in a conveyance.
Two years ago, records show Smith pleaded no contest to stealing a different car and spent nearly eight months in jail. Shortly after he was released, he was arrested for stealing another car, but prosecutors dropped the case on him.
Additional charges are pending.
The victim received minor injuries.
