Man accused of pointing gun at Brevard deputy during foot chase

MIMS, Fla. – A 20-year-old Brevard County man was arrested Friday on suspicion of pointing a gun at a deputy who tried to pull him over for a traffic violation on a bicycle.

David Quentell Baker, of Mims, was arrested on charges of assault with a firearm on a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, resisting arrest without violence and violation of probation.

According to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Andrew Johnson was patrolling late Thursday night near Main Street and Harry T. Moore Avenue in Mims when he observed Baker commit a traffic infraction while riding a bicycle.

When Johnson stopped Baker for the violation, Baker pushed the bike toward the deputy and ran off, deputies said.

During the chase, according to the Sheriff's Office, Johnson saw Baker remove a handgun from his waistband and point it directly at him.

Deputies later found and arrested Baker at 2574 Bethune Avenue in Mims.  He was taken to the Brevard County Jail and was being held on no bond.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
