Police said they saw Torres riding a bicycle with no lights in the 2000 block of Frail Street and upon approaching him, found that he may have had an outstanding warrant in Connecticut.

When police tried to put the man in handcuffs, Torres ran away and was Tased by an officer. Torres then tried to break the wires from the Taser as police tried to handcuff him, according to police.

Torres then yelled, "Stop hitting me, I've got a gun to your head," rolled over, pulled a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun from his waistband and pointed it at one officer's face, police said. An officer was able to point the barrel away from both officers and take the gun away.

Police said one officer sustained a laceration on the face from being punched by the suspect. The other officer sustained abrasions to their right hand, caused by the front sight of the gun, as they struggled to take the gun away from Torres.

Torres is being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail on $50,500 bond.
