George Dewey shot, killed Aug. 11

COCOA, Fla. – A 26-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a fatal August shooting that left a 28-year-old man dead central Brevard.

News 6 partner Florida Today reports Tracy Boother Jr. was arrested today in the shooting death of George Dewey, of Cocoa, who was shot and killed Aug. 11 in the Space Coast Gardens community just west of Cocoa. Boother was arrested on manslaughter charges, according to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said Boother and Dewey began to exchange gunfire in the area of Venus Drive. Dewey was fatally shot in the back as he retreated from the scene, according to evidence collected by the sheriff's office.

Laboratory tests conducted by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement confirmed that a nearby shell casing had been discharged from Boother's weapon.

Investigators told FLORIDA TODAY in August that a feud between the two may have played itself out online.

“There were conversations going on before between a couple of individuals. From what I know, it looks like it was pretty close to the time of the (shooting),” Maj. Tod Goodyear of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office said in August. “There were some offline, as well as online, discussions."
