Man arrested in hit-and-run crash that killed plumber

Incident happened more than two years ago

CASSELBERRY, Fla. – More than two years after a hit-and-run crash killed a local plumber, his family finally has justice after investigators said they've found the driver.

He was hit as he loaded up his work truck along East Lake Drive in Casselberry.

At the time, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said there were no witnesses, so detectives needed hard evidence to make an arrest.

In the time that passed, Rafael Duarte's family had no closure. As Duarte was dying in the hospital, his son told News 6 he wanted the driver to turn himself in.

"it's crushing my heart," Duarte Jr. said. "It's my father. He's such a great man, never harmed anybody. He was always happy."

Now, investigators have finally made an arrest after new evidence linked 60-year-old Marc Manis to the scene.

Manis has been a potential suspect for a while. Two years ago, an anonymous tip lead troopers to Manis' home and his car in the garage.

Back then, Manis gave a statement to traffic homicide investigators, but without an eyewitness putting him behind the wheel, investigators needed more before they made an arrest.

Troopers say the state crime lab found Duarte's blood on Manis' car. Manis had no comment Monday.
