William Christy is accused of stabbing a man in Daytona Beach.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A Daytona Beach man is accused of stabbing another man outside a food mart Sunday evening, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said William Christy, 51, stabbed David Davidson, 57, at Kelly's Food Mart on Derbyshire Road.

The store clerk told deputies that Davidson, who is a regular at the food mart, appeared to be drunk when he came in around 6:40 p.m. to buy a beer then walked out. He returned minutes later bleeding from his face and torso, saying he'd just been stabbed.

When deputies arrived, the clerk was outside trying to help the victim. Davidson wasn't able to provide much information, but did point authorities to Christy, who was still at the scene, according to a news release.

Christy told deputies that Davidson struck him with a metal pipe, but refused to answer questions about it, officials said. A metal pipe and a pocket knife were found at the scene.

“Based on the evidence at the scene, and the victim identifying the defendant as the person who stabbed him, detectives determined some type of physical altercation occurred outside of the store and the defendant stabbed the victim multiple times for unknown reasons,” detectives wrote in the charging affidavit.

Davidson was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach for surgery. He is in stable condition in the intensive care unit.

Christy was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
