Man attempts to kidnap woman in Orlando

Woman nearly dragged into bushes near apartment complex

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando police are investigating what they say was an attempted kidnapping of a woman who was nearly dragged into some bushes while she walking.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m. Monday at The Summit apartments near Metrowest Boulevard and Park Center Drive.

According to the victim, she left the gym of the complex and was walking when a man grabbed her from behind, put his hands over her mouth and attempted to pull her into some bushes.

According to Orlando police, the woman was able to escape after elbowing the man in the ribs.  She told police she believes she may have cracked one of his ribs.

The woman then ran home and called police.

The man was only described as 6 feet 2 inches tall with short hair and no facial hair.  He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

The woman was not injured.

Alex Guevara moved into the area recently and says she is surprised to hear about this incident because she always feels safe in the apartment complex.

"It definitely does make you feel uneasy when you know stuff like that is happening," Guevara said.

Jackie Robinson said she was surprised, too.

"It definitely can be scary if I'm caught walking around here and something like that happens," Robinson told reporters.

"It is a little disturbing. I do have a 3-year-old daughter of my own," Sierra Fernandez said, expressing her own unease. "It's just a reminder, really. This happened to a grown woman, and we just really have to watch out at night."

According to police, the victim said she has had several incidents with a group of men at the complex, and a few months ago she was slapped on her backside while running on a treadmill.

Orlando police conducted a search in the area but were unable to find the man.  Anyone with any information about the man is urged to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
