Man carjacked in Orange County after agreeing to give a ride at Home Depot

Incident reported near corner of Ololu Drive, Franklin Avenue

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Orange County deputies on Monday were investigating a carjacking near the corner of Ololu Drive and Franklin Avenue.

Just after 4:20 p.m., a man approached the 76-year-old victim at the Home Depot store at 5351 Diplomat Circle, asking for a ride. The victim agreed, deputies with the Orange County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

During the ride, the assailant pushed the man out of the car and drove off in the vehicle, officials said.

The victim suffered minor injuries and was treated by firefighters.

Deputies found the stolen vehicle in Deltona. The person responsible for the carjacking remains at large.

He is reported to be in his 20s, about 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall and wearing a black shirt and black shorts. He has a thin mustache and tattoos on his right arm, deputies said.

News 6 was there as the victim sat on a lawn chair talking with investigators on the side of the street. The man had a bandage on his left arm.

Sharon Huffman lives on the street and said several vehicles have been stolen in her neighborhood over the past couple of years.

"I'm good friends with two people that have lost their cars," Huffman said. "I do know two cars were stolen from the houses where they were."

Anyone who has information on the man’s identity is asked to call the Sheriff's Office or Crimeline.
