UCF football player tackles student caught filming girls in bathroom, police say

Cops: Man arrested after taking videos of cheerleading campers in arena bathroom

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 21-year-old University of Central Florida student was arrested after police say he took videos of girls attending a cheerleading camp at the CFE Arena on campus.

Jonathan Hui has been charged with lewd and lascivious behavior, burglary, video voyeurism and possession of obscene material in the Wednesday incident.

UCF police say the girls were in the female restroom inside of the CFE Arena at around 6 p.m. Wednesday when they saw a man, later identified as Hui, videotaping the girls using the restroom with a cellphone.

The girls reported the incident to their coach, who then saw Hui leaving the female restroom. According to the arrest report, when a janitor asked Hui what he was doing, he took off running and was chased through the arena and out into Memory Mall.

Hui was held down by UCF wide receiver Tristan Payton until police arrived and questioned Hui.

"The defendant was running pretty fast and there were some people chasing him and couldn't catch up. Well of all the people he picked on campus, he picked the wide receiver. One of the fastest guys on the football team for those of you that don't understand football," said UCF Police Chief Richard Beary.

The police chief also gave Payton a job application to become a police officer after he graduates.

Hui told police that he thought it was funny he was in a restroom full of females so he wanted to videotape their feet to send to his friends, according to the report.

Police said they found a 39-second video on Hui's phone showing a girl in the restroom.

"Most people don't just take video to look at themselves. These people have a pattern generally of sharing. So, we are certainly looking into that. We've been in contact with the FBI who has an innocent images task force," said Beary.

Hui, who police say was majoring in international and global studies, was booked into Orange County Jail on eight charges and additional charges may be filed as more victims are identified.

Police said that Hui is not allowed back to campus.

A coordinator for the cheerleading camp told News 6 that a lot of the teen girls participating in the training sessions are frightened by what happened.
