Man charged with attempted murder after fireworks shot at police

Orlando police say they had to duck for cover

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 37-year-old man was arrested on charges of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer after he allegedly shot fireworks at Orlando police officers.

Khasim Stephenson was arrested early Thursday after police said they had to duck for cover on Pine Street in downtown Orlando as fireworks flew at them.

According to Orlando police, one of the fireworks that Stephenson shot at them looked like a green fireball.

Stephenson said the fireworks were already lit and he had no place to put them, and he wasn't aiming at the officers, according to police.

Stephenson was taken to the Orange County Jail.
