Man charged with shooting bicyclist in Orange County

37-year-old man faces 2nd degree murder charges

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Orange County deputies have arrested a man who they say shot and killed a bicyclist Sunday afternoon,

Edward Hayes, 37, faces a slew of charges, including second degree murder, after deputies say he opened fire near 35th Street and Nashville Avenue Sunday afternoon.

Shane Thompson, 32, was found on the ground near 35th and Nashville with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he died.

A witness called 911 after finding Thompson on the ground.

Police believe Thompson was standing on the side of the road with his bicycle when he was shot.

Hayes is expected to face a judge on Tuesday morning.
