Police: Man slain during robbery in Apopka; reward offered
Police search for shooter
A $5,000 reward is being offered in the death of a man who was shot at his Apopka home during a robbery attempt.
Police said they were called to a home at 1031 South Hawthorne Avenue just after 10 p.m. Friday and found a man dead on the porch of his home.
Police said 31-year-old Eddie Vazquez was killed during an attempted robbery.
Vazquez's brother told Local 6 he and his brother were standing on the porch having a few beers when a man whom they did not know came up and tried to rob them.
Vazquez's brother told Local 6 reporter Kala Rama that when his brother resisted, the man shot him in the throat, killing him.
A second man was also involved in the incident.
One assailant was described as 5 feet 11 inches tall, in his late teens or early 20s with short hair and a slim build. He was wearing all black clothing, including baggy shorts and a hat.
The other was about 5 feet 8 inches tall, in his late teens or early 20s with a slim build. He was wearing a T-shirt, long pants and a black tank top.
The family had recently left Guatemala to find a better life in Orlando.
