Man held after standoff in Mims neighborhood

Officials say man had shotgun

MIMS, Fla. – A suspect was taken into custody Saturday afternoon, ending an incident that began eight hours earlier, Brevard County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Maria Fernez said.

The suspect, Terrence Wendel, 44, of Mims, was charged with aggravated assault in connection with an alleged incident of domestic violence.

The incident began at about 6:30 a.m at a home on Hog Valley Road in Mims, when an altercation between a man and a woman was reported, according to Fernez.

Several nearby homes were evacuated, as a man holed up inside a home on that street. The man had been intoxicated, and the woman managed to escape, Fernez said.

"The male does own a shotgun, and had threatened the female with the weapon," Fernez said.

Some areas around Hog Valley Road had been inaccessible during the incident because of the police activity.
