Police received a 911 call around 1:20 a.m. that a person in an orange hoodie took a gun out of a trunk outside Safari Lounge, according to the Daytona Police Department.

Police said three officers and a sergeant arrived at the scene and found the teen, identified as DeAndre Sanders, 16.

Officers told Sanders to stop walking. He took off running and a chase ensued, police said. He then tried to climb the wire fence behind the building.

Police said Officer Marcus Booth told Sanders to put up his hands and he refused.

Police said Sanders then took a gun from his waistband and pointed it at Booth, who fired a shot at him.

It's still unclear if Sanders got cut from the fence or was grazed by the bullet.

Sanders was taken to Halifax Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and released to a juvenile detention center.

Officers said the firearm the man retrieved from the car had been reported stolen from South Daytona.

Police said Booth has been with the Daytona Beach Police Department since 2010.

Authorities said Booth will be placed on paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.

Sanders faces charges of possession of stolen firearm, attempted murder and aggravated assault. Because of the seriousness of the charges, he'll be charged as an adult.

Police said Sanders admitted to being in the bar drinking, having the stolen gun, running away from officers and showing the gun to police.

Sanders was also on probation when the shooting occurred.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement responded to the scene and is investigating the shooting.

Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood said Booth was physically shaken by the incident.

Safari Lounge is an adult after-hours club that runs until 3 a.m. Chitwood told News 6 that they don't have too many problems at that lounge.
