Man kidnaps, robs Aflac employee, returns victim to work

Deputies asking for public's help in finding Merritt Island robber

MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. – Brevard County deputies are searching for a man who fled a Merritt Island insurance office after a robbery today.

Local 6 News partner Florida Today reports that deputies said a man entered the Aflac Insurance Office at 2094 N. Courtenay Parkway, near the intersection with Skyline Boulevard on Merritt Island, and bound an unidentified employee, forcing the employee from the store at gunpoint.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Deputy Maria Fernez said the robber forced the employee into the employee's car and drove to a nearby bank, telling the victim to withdraw money. The robber drove the employee back to work and then fled in the vehicle.

The robber is described as a man in his twenties. He was wearing a black baseball cap, black pants and a white shirt.

The driver was seen in a four-door white 2003 Mitsubishi Diamante. It has tinted windows and the front bumper is missing. Anyone who sees the car is asked to call the sheriff's office at 321-633-7162 or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS. The suspect is described as a man in his early 20s with some facial hair and a thin build. He was wearing a white shirt, black pants and black baseball hat at the time.
