ORLANDO, Fla. - Orange County Sheriff's deputies are searching for a gunman they say attacked a man at an Orlando ATM and then stole his car.
The attack happened early Wednesday at the Bank of America on Central Florida Parkway and Orange Blossom Trail.
Deputies told Local 6 the victim was making a deposit when the assailant came up from behind and pistol-whipped him. Investigators say after the gunman demanded cash, he then stole the man's car.
"I work late and come in at the nighttime to deposit money, withdrawal money," said Kevin Mansoor. "I never hear of anything happening like that before."
Mansoor was banking at the ATM Wednesday evening with his backed turned, just like the victim. After the robbery, deputies said the suspect carjacked the victim's SUV, which makes Mansoor think twice about leaving his car running, unattended while he uses the ATM.
The car was later found at an apartment complex near the bank, but the carjacker was nowhere to be found.
Surveillance pictures released late Wednesday show the suspect lurking around a wall just seconds before the attack. A camera also captured a close up picture of the suspect, but his face was mostly covered.
"You're not secure anywhere," said Mansoor. "I'm going to look around more, I guess, and try to come in at a better time, daylight time."
"Its crazy," said Rashel Pond, who heard about the late-night ATM attack, and because she has to bank at night, she took steps to stay safe, including using the drive-through ATM instead of the walk-up machine. "I watch my surroundings. I don't get out."
The victim is expected to be OK, deputies said.
