Victim critically injured; shooter on the run

MELBOURNE, Fla. – A man was shot and critically injured late Monday in Melbourne after driving to a mobile home park to meet someone, police said.

The shooting was reported about 10 p.m. at the Meadows complex near the intersection of Bridgewater and Rolling Rock drives, according to Melbourne police.

Police said the unidentified man was shot at least once in the abdomen. He was treated by paramedics and taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne.

Police said the man rode to the neighborhood with a female friend to meet someone. Moments later, the man was shot and wounded, police said. He made it back to the car, where his friend then alerted a resident at the mobile home park for help, police said.

Officers canvassed the surrounding neighborhood shortly after the shooting but did not locate the shooter.

A motive in the shooting has not been established.
