Man shot following altercation with stepfather, police say

Police: Man transported to hospital with multiple gunshot wounds

SANFORD, Fla. – A man was taken to a nearby hospital with multiple gunshot wounds following a domestic incident with his stepfather Saturday, Sanford police said.

Police said they responded around 9:45 a.m. to a domestic incident at East 25th Street and South Summerlin Avenue involving a man in his late 20s and his stepfather, identified as Thomas Lathrop, 71.

The stepson and Lathrop got into an altercation before Lathrop shot him in the back, Sanford police said.

Police said the man was transported to a nearby hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.

Lathrop was taken into custody, police said. He was charged with premeditated murder (domestic violence).

Lathrop made his first court appearance in Seminole County at 9 a.m. Sunday and was denied bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 13.
