Man shot while grilling in his back yard

Victim taken to Orlando hospital; 2 gunmen sought

APOPKA, Fla. – A man grilling in his back yard in Orange County late Sunday was shot in the leg after two masked men tried to rob him.

The shooting happened around 10:45 p.m. in the 1000 block of Lisa Lane near Apopka.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, the 49-year-old victim told deputies that he was in his yard when he was approached by two masked men, one of whom had a handgun and the other a shotgun.

The gunmen demanded the man's wallet, but the victim started to head toward his home, officials said.

"I was like, 'Yo, bro, what's up?'" the victim told News 6. "And he was, like, 'This ain't no game. This ain't no joke,' and I got up and walked to the house."

One of the culprits then opened fire, striking the man in the leg, deputies said.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, deputies said.

The man's wallet was not stolen, authorities said.

K-9 units were used to search for the gunmen, who are 18 to 20 years old, but no arrests have been made.

The man later returned home and told News 6 reporter Johny Fernandez that he didn't know the gunmen.

No other details have been released.
