55-year-old victim found shot in Citra

A man was shot to death in Citra, deputies say.

CITRA, Fla. – Marion County deputies are conducting a homicide investigation after a man was found shot inside a home in Citra early Wednesday.

Deputies say they found 55-year-old Michael Sumpter suffering from a gunshot wound inside the home on Northeast 16th Terrace. Sumpter was rushed to the hospital but did not survive.

Detectives spent the early morning hours interviewing family members and witnesses. They say at the time of the shooting, Sumpter was in the house with his daughter, son, and brother. Investigators are not saying who pulled the trigger only that there are no suspects.

Detectives are expected to get more evidence when they serve a search warrant at the home.
